Hey Everyone,
Hope you are all doing well.
April 22nd is always a very reflective day for me. A dear friend of mine passed away on April 22nd, 2004. Her name was Belinda Thomas, and many of you know her through the fan club and her Love For Elvis! We came into each others lives only a brief 10 months before she passed away.....but our bond was strong. I think we were "kindred spirits"....... our souls truly connected.
She was a strong, courageous woman whom I loved dearly! And she reciprocated that love with her laughter, her smiles, and her tears. We laughed....giggled actually (just like little girls!) together....but we also cried. Belinda had been diagnosed with Leukemia shortly before we met. Don't get me wrong ... .NEVER for ONE second did I ever hear her complain. In fact her illness made her faith even stronger, and she was positive and hopeful! That is one of the many, many reasons I truly admired and respected her. Luckily her Cancer went into Remission, and we all thought that her body had been healed, and we would have many more days together ahead of us. But it wasn't to be....God had other plans. While being hospitalized Belinda took ill from a cold that attacked her already weakened body, and she quickly, quietly slipped away....to be with Jesus in Heaven.
We talked alot about our Faith and God. Belinda introduced me to a Christian singing group called: Hillsong whom I love to this day - talk about INSPIRING music! Our favorite song was: I Can Only Imagine. Since then many people have gone on to record it......but it is that first version that we listened to together that I'll always love & cherish the best. Many times I'll be driving in my car or shopping at the store...and all of a sudden there's "our song" being played. At these times I always look up and smile and say "Hey there B, I love ya girl!"
I am very close to her family - they have become my own extended family. In fact Belinda's beloved Mother Lola affectionately calls me her "Canadian Child".... and I love her right back and call her "My Tupelo Mama". When I was speaking with Lola a few hours ago on the phone she paused and said "Belinda really loved you alot....I know you didn't know each other long but she sure loved you....she always called you her angel" ...... I've heard this from Lola many times.....but I never tire of hearing it. It means the world to me !
But if the truth be known.....Belinda was MY Angel. She taught me to never stop believing no matter what....and that God always has a plan - even if we don't understand it at the time. He knows what's best.
'
My dear, sweet Belinda. How I wish you could physically be here on earth to share in my excitement and happiness - to be able to pick up the phone and hear your laughter and sweet voice on the other end. But I know we'll be together again someday, and then I won't have to "Imagine" any more either.....and you can show me exactly where God was so eager for you to be! :)
~ Ronda Marson ~
I hope you truly know how very much I love & appreciate all of you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :) We have so many special memories of being together, and I look forward to the years ahead creating many more special memories!
Love For Elvis,
~ Ronda ~

I knew Elvis Fans and Love For Elvis Fan Club Members would come through !!!!!! The response the Radio Station KIOA received in response to the DISTASTEFUL Billboard has been HUGE !!!! I'm sure they are shocked that they have been hearing from not only people in the local Iowa area - but from people across the US & Canada...... DON'T MESS with ELVIS FANS is the message they've received loud and clear!!!
Many fan club members sent me a copy of the emails they have sent the station. I wanted to post a few of them here to share with you - but have not posted the authors name to respect their privacy.

Dear Sir,
Re: subject promo.
Not very good, not very original! Is this the best effort your management could come up with? It could be argued, I guess, that your promo people are dead... from the neck up! More than anything, I feel sorry for all the dimwitted people involved in this sordid endeavor.

Hi:
Recently saw your billboard with the Elvis is Dead slogan. I'm hoping that this is just a marketing ploy to get people like myself to phone or write in disagreement. Rock and Roll started in the 1950s with Elvis at the helm. I'm sure you agree that cutting 50s artists off your roster will unnecessarily take away listeners and therefore affect ratings. I'm certain that you will reconsider this decision and bring Elvis and the other 50s greats back into your lineup.

Hi Ronda....I am incensed by this.
Unfortunately knowing radio station management as I do....they don't care.....but we MUST TRY, for sure! I'll e mail right away.
Thanks for tcb'ing for Elvis......

I am so proud of all of you for defending one of the most outstanding Men who has graced this Earth! Here is the response that I heard more than a few people got. Obviously a very generic response created from the backlog of angry Elvis fans who has contacted them. The worst thing is this response doesn't even constitute an acceptable "excuse" - which is exactly what they are 'making up' - EXCUSES !!!!
Radio Station's "OFFICIAL" Reply:
Thank you for your concern - we do appreciate feedback. However, nowhere does the billboard say we dislike Elvis or Elvis is bad. The message is directed to those who believe that we are still about the 50's & 60's, which hasn't been the case for several years. The implied message is, we're not the KIOA of the past. Anything else is being wrongly assumed and more is being read into it than should be. If you are a devout Elvis fan you're not likely to be spending a great deal of time with us anyway. If I may suggest,if you're looking for a lot of Elvis, you may want to try our sister station 1350 KRNT. It now is somewhat where KIOA use to be and I believe you may find it very enjoyable.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
What????? Trying to get the message across that they are not the KIOA of the past????? Where does that constitute them claiming on a HUGE Billboard Sign: Elvis Is Dead?????? I'm sorry but the first thing I think of when I see that Billboard is NOT: Hmmm....I guess that means KIOA has changed...Let me tune in to see!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What about these suggestions instead that actually get the message across that they are trying to relay:
* The KIOA of the past is Dead - Tune in to the "NEW" KIOA *
* Elvis & The Beatles don't Live here anymore *
* Elvis has found a new place to dwell *
* No More 50's & Do-Wop Here - Tune in to the New KIOA *
ETC. Etc. etc.
****************************************
Again thanks to EVERYONE who has joined us in letting them know we are not happy and want the Billboard taken down !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will keep you updated should there be further progress.
All I've got to say is: ELVIS FANS ROCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Elvis will forever be alive and well in our hearts - now and FOR ALWAYS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to the very core of my being !!!!! It is an oldies station that used
to play 50's, and has now switched their format to play 60's and
later. They have AT LEAST one HUGE Billboard that we know of that has
their station call letters and in BIG BOLD letters says: ELVIS IS
DEAD. That's right - can you believe the sheer stupidity of this Ad
campaign???? Do they not know the resolve and passion with which each
and every one of us feel towards Elvis?? Do they not know that as
Elvis fans we will do everything earthly possible to protect his good
name????
I KNOW Elvis fans - and I KNOW we won't keep quiet about this!!)
Please write the radio station to tell them how disgusted we are, and
that they've messed with the wrong man and the wrong fans !!!!!
I know on good authority (thanks LK!) that Graceland has been made fully aware of this, and may be taking action as we speak! So please don't bother
EPE - but every way that we can towards the station and their
marketing Department - LET'S MAKE OUR VOICES HEARD !!!! :) ELVIS FANS
UNITE !!!
As much as I hate to (it makes me SICK to my stomach to see it!) I have attached a photo here of the billboard.
LONG LIVE ELVIS !!!!
We've decided to change the format of the Ronda & Valerie's Corner of our website! We thought it might be neat to have a blog format. That way we can update it as things happen, and would also allow us to comment on current events in the Elvis World as they are happening. It's a great way to get info to you all quickly and easily!
So...I hope you enjoy this - my "first" official entry !!! :)
I will write again soon - just wanted to update you on the new format!
Take Care & God Bless You All !! :)
